Two Horse Wars

Two Horse Wars concentrates on identifying races where we feel there is 2 major chances that can both be backed at good odds for a result across the race. Selections added daily covering, AUS, UK, IRE & USA horse racing.

Wednesday 7 December

Sale R6 No12 Hex - lightly raced Commands 3yo filly 2nd up from a spell on the back of a good effort 1st up over 1200m at Kyneton, 3rd btn 1l, good scope for more here 2nd up, looked well above the required level to win a race of this nature when scoring on debut at Bendigo 6 starts ago followed by a high merit 3rd to Star Salute at Sandown on the Lakeside circuit, Molon Lave next best as the only seen major danger.

Sale R6 No5 Molon Lave - Niello 4yo ready for a new peak here 3rd up on the back of a very good merit 2nd last start over this track and distance, totally suited under the pace scenario here coming from off a fast pace with last run at them, may prove hard to hold out.

Monday 5 December

Ararat R3 No11 Barbara Joy - trial winner in prep for 1st up effort here annexing a 990m trial at Cranbourne, confirms capability of returning with a potential new peak here especially considering drawn to get one of the runs of the race, good speed pedigree by Testa Rossa out of a Danzero mare.

Ararat R3 No13 Tsukioka - Flying Spur 5yo mare who has been persevered with only facing the starter 3 times in short career, very good effort 1st up last start btn 1.4l 5th at Geelong over same trip as today, 4th and 6th both won next start out of that maiden franking the form as did 9th, numerous other strong subsequent runs out of that hot maiden also add good depth, back along with Barbara Joy for a result across the race.

Friday 2 December

Pakenham R8 No1 Fiddler - former Kiwi galloper having 3rd start in Australia, 2nd up here, knocked off Jimmy Choux at Listed level over 1340m 2 preps ago and was only btn 2.8l at G3 level last prep, exposed form well above the level required to win here, must take on trust at the price despite having to lump top weight.

Pakenham R8 No10 Caravaggio - Freedman trained Al Maher colt resuming from a spell, 2nd career start only btn 1.3l into 2nd by Burnout for a $70K purse at Caulfield over 1200m, decent form refs since frank the form out of that race, close up 4th to Costly Commitment over further 3rd up last prep in strong Open 3yo company with a good margin to 5th in a large field, if primed for this 1st up assault may prove hard to hold out with good natural scope for more and class on its side.

Tuesday 22 November

Moe R4 No3 The Von - 1st up for the Moody yard, widish gate no query, pace scenario suits, will be solid as a minimum and get back with every chance to close off over the top of them, very good end of last prep close up 2nd to Miss Extravagant over 1600m at Stawell with good margins through the btn brigade, form franked with 3rd 4th and 6th all winning quickly after, ticks plenty of boxes to warrant being top elect here.

Moe R4 No6 Mt Sugarloaf - ready for new peak now 4th up stepping to 1600m for the 1st time, not disgraced 3 runs this prep, gets blinkers 1st time, trial 3rd to Ladretto prior to start of this prep suggests above average ability compared to par for this maiden tag, likely big value, warrants support along with top elect The Von for a result across the race.

Sunday 20 November

Ballarat R2 No10 Mango Mojito - well bred type by Rock Of Gibraltar out of the good race mare Mango Daiquiri, deceivingly good effort last start 2nd to Red Rose Bud, good margins through btn brigade adds depth, drawn to get one of the runs of the race, new peak expected stretching out to 1600m for the 1st time.

Ballarat R2 No8 First Deck - forget last start effort 6th to Red Rose Bud (same race Mango Mojito finished 2nd in), debut 2nd start prior over 1414m at Pakenham reads strong, clearly the best closing pars that day and good scope for natural improvement again here, back along with First Deck with equal confidence for each for a result across the race.

Wednesday 16 November

Gawler R2 No10 Californian Devil - drawn the inside gate and should get a perfect ground saving trip on the front end without having to work hard early to take up position, has raced consistently against stronger in short career and drops into a weaker maiden here on the back of being btn 2.8l by Artie's Angel in a clearly stronger race, easily accounted for numerous race winners, looks the best placed of these on that effort, top elect.

Gawler R2 No8 Romantic Miss - drops in class out of better class maidens in Victoria and has shown glimpses that it is well above this level including 3rd up effort at Sale this prep btn only 0.6l by Elite Ebony, if it finds anywhere near that level here it can win at a nice price.

Gawler R3 No11 Meshmaker - former Sydney-sider now with Mark Kavanagh, bare Sydney form suggests it is the one to beat here clearly above the maiden tag level on offer, good trial 2nd in prep for return to Indepedent Air then btn 2l by Broadway Lad in a strong maiden at Morphettville, sure to improve again here, well bred, drawn a good gate, ticks enough boxes to warrant serious support.

Gawler R3 No12 Morse Code - lightly raced improver by Niello (Lonhro's full brother) who comes into this 4th up from a spell, 1st up effort 3 back clearly strong enough to win this when blowsed at Gawler into 2nd, 2nd up last prep only 1.8l off Artie's Angel, 1st 2nd and 4th out of that race all won quickly after adding good depth to the form, not the best alley but if it gets the right trip it will be right in the finish, back along with Meshmaker for a result across the race.

Canterbury R2 No8 North Pole Dancer - lightly raced and bred to stay this trip and further by Anabaa out of the Zabeel mare Al Bayan, trial winner at Randwick over 1050m prior to debut then finished 2nd btn 0.8l at Kembla Grange over 1300m on debut, well beaten behind Shamardini last start but prepared to forgive that effort, big scope for more and warrants backing with blinkers 1st time as one of the value elects

Canterbury R2 No10 Coogee Coozifa - deceivingly well bred by Danzero out of the French raced and Irish bred Bluebird mare Mer Du Sud who has already produced HK G1 winner The Duke by Danehill, sire line obviously nicks well to this mare (most Bluebird mares do nick well to Danehill line stallions), interestingly trained by former UK trainer Mark Wallace who surely knows this female line well, trial 4th to Shesahussler and debut 4th at Randwick both suggest has the scope to win at this level over this sort of trip, may go around any old price, McEvoy booked, warrants specking at the big odds.

Tuesday 8 November

Moe R2 No3 Pilot Error - priced up as a 50/1 chance on the morning line, ridiculously big overs, very well bred by Encosta De Lago out of the high class Agnes World mare Sally's World who herself is a half sister to 2 stakes winners being Miss Mooney Mooney and Publishing, was a $130K yearling purchase for Patinack and failed on debut at Ballarat over 1200m but got daught deep with no cover and was hampered midrace, clearly better than that going on breeding and must be respected here if bet at any sort of price.

Moe R2 No10 Her Diamond Rock - very well bred type by Fastnet Rock out of a True Hero mare who herself was a 7 times sprint winner, finished 2nd in a hot trial at Cranbourne on slow going in prep for debut on 31 Oct with form refs through the btn brigade adding good depth to that trial effort, price up at 10/1 on the morning line, warrants backing along with Pilot Error for a result across the race.

Moe R3 No12 No Manners - deceivingly well bred type by Bel Esprit out of the high class and well related Danehill mare Dandify (daughter of Mannerism), showed good speed on debut to share lead no cover widest getting a tough trip before wilting in deep stretch to finish 7th btn 5.3l in a much stronger maiden at Bendigo over 1100m, was an $80K yearling purchase for these connections and the fact that it was thrown in against tougher and showed good speed on debut suggests to us it is well up to winning a race of this nature, merit well hidden, natural scope for more 2nd up here.

Moe R3 No6 Top Classic - draws the inside gate and did nothing on debut last prep btn 6.9l over this track and distance, trial form suggests clearly better than that and recently finished a good 6th in a strong trial at Cranbourne over 990m in prep for return, handles rain effected ground, well placed, merit well hidden, warrants backing along with No Manners for a result across the race.

Moe R4 No4 Marlborough - not a super strong staying race in terms if class for the maiden tag on offer, this one is by Savabeel out of a Listed winning Sir Tristram mare who is a full sister to 9 times stakes winner Tri Belle, gets to a suitable trip here 4th up for the first time and bred for it, 2nd up effort was good doihng best work close home when 5th to World Domination, clear new peak expected, well placed.

Moe R4 No10 Memphis Dawn - as stated above not the strongest quality maiden for the tag, this one well bred for the trip by Elvestroem out of a Zabeel mare who herself is out of a G1 Australasian Oaks winner, decent effort close 3rd at Bairnsdale on Melbourne Cup day, quick 7 day back up and steps to 2000m for the first time, new peak expected, back along with Marlborough for a result across the race, Marlborough slightly preferred (bigger outlay).

Moe R7 No8 Bella Mews - bred to stay on the dam's side of its pedigree and has been knocking on the door in decent maidens last 3 starts on end, in well weighted here and looks as though it will be able to dictate a slow tempo on the front end, decent turn of foot when unpressured and should prove hard to run down in deep stretch, the main elect.

Moe R7 No9 Aspen Nikita - bred to stay on Pentire and has stoutness on the dam's side of its pedigree aswell, good maiden win abliet on heavy going over 2000m last prep and looked as though nearing peak when 2nd at Stawell on 28 Oct in prep for this, beaten by the potentially city class stayer Derisive (by Commands ex Shame) that day who is in the middle of building a picket fence record last few starts this prep, in well weighted here, quoted at 19.00 on the morning line, if they bet anywhere near that price mustked in Bella Mews.
