Race 5

(Interesting race with the two favourites likely to be under the odds. Couple here with a chance and if prepared to bet around the top two you will find some good value.)

1: Arch Symbol

Price: $3.4

Comment

Been super at both runs this time in and just missed when hit the line strong last start over 1200m at Moonee Valley. Classy type who has 7 wins from 15 starts and should be at peak fitness now. He looks to still be improving and will be hitting the line strong late here.

2: Elusive Touch

Price: $5.5

Comment

Resumes. Only missed a place once in 6 career starts including 2 wins and the form-lines read strong for this. Likely to have derived great benefit from the break and with the Mark Kavanagh polish can win this fresh. Goes forward from gate 6 and should get a soft run on the pace.

4: Grand Duels

Price: $6.7

Comment

Hard one to catch but gets his chance here and has been kept fresh for this which is a plus. Outclassed last start so prepared to be forgiving and is likely to box seat from gate 1. The class runner of the field on absolute best form but taking on trust here.

5: Tolka Polka

Price: $7

Comment

Resumes. Goes ok fresh and unlucky not to probably win first up last time in. Rarely far from the money and from the good gate should enjoy a good run throughout and will be in this for a long way.

6: O’Reilly’s Clock

Price: $8.9

Comment

Resumes. Goes extremely well fresh and is a winner twice over 1200. If can produce any of his past 4 first up attempts will give this an almighty shake. Has the good consistent form in strong Saturday grade and if anywhere near right looks the knockout player.

Race 6

(Tough little race but the top four have cleared out in the market. Like the top pick but not sure how much value will be on offer but happy to play if we get it.)

1: Lord Pyrus

Price: $4.5

Comment

At peak for this after two very good runs this time in. Rise in trip looks a massive plus and will enjoy the run of the race from gate 2. Has plenty of upside and with strong overall form-lines looks the one to beat.

2: The Red Emperor

Price: $7

Comment

Caught wide early last start so prepared to overlooks that run on face value. He returned in top order with an excellent run fresh and will be close to peak fitness for this. The rise in distance is a plus and overall form looks good enough for this.

3: Kallogg

Price: $7.3

Comment

Put two wins together in midweek company before come to Saturday grade and was narrowly beaten by the handy No Jurisdiction. Looks a classy type on the up and this race not overly strong. Will get back from gate 13 but with a likely genuine tempo will get his chance to be running on.

4: Dr Nipandtuck

Price: $7.6

Comment

Showed glimpses of his best at both runs this prep and was a shade unlucky not to win last start. Strips fitter and will only improve further now up to a more suitable trip. Hasn’t won for a while but form and opposition should give him the best chance of breaking through for overdue win.

Race 7

(Keen to work around the top 4 selections here and likely to be some good value on offer)

1: Marchelle Belle

Price: $4.2

Comment

Model of consistency in this grade and was only run down late last start when looked home. Steps out to 2000m which looks a real plus as she showed good staying potential in the early days. Gets in well with the claim and will prove very hard to run down again.

2: Belscenica

Price: $4.5

Comment

Looks ready to win now after 3 solid runs this time in. Will appreciate the rise in trip and should get the gun run from gate 2. Has won 5 from 17 career starts so has obvious ability and her overall form-lines look strong for this. Gets in very well with the 3kg claim for Jake Noonan so drops 7kgs on his last start 3rd.

3: Avienus

Price: $6.2

Comment

Promising type who is in rare form winning 2of her last 3 starts. Meets similar opposition again here so can win but rises 3kgs on recent racing. The rise in trip will suit and she is expected to play a major part in the finish again.

4: Shylock’s Daughter

Price: $6.6

Comment

Winner 2 of last 3 and steps up to a more suitable trip. In form mare who continues to improve and handles all conditions.

Race 8

1: Currency Cugat

Price: $5

Comment

Happy to forgive his last start flop when raced on the real heavy at Sandown. The start prior got a long way back in a race where it was hard to make ground. Three runs back was super in this grade when hit the line strong and beaten less than a length. Can settle closer from the good gate and with conditions to suit looks a major player.

2: Red Buttons

Price: $7.3

Comment

Did enough first up when narrowly beaten to suggest he is in for a good prep. Will appreciate the rise in trip and should enjoy a good run on the speed from gate 6. Yet to win second up but was beaten less than a length second up last prep in good open company.

3: Tinamou

Price: $8

Comment

Strung two very good wins together his last couple on his favoured heavy track. That form reads well for this but not sure how he will go back on top of the ground. Has obvious ability so take on trust here.

4: Anson

Price: $8.9

Comment

Lightly raced type on the up that scored a strong win over the 1800m at Morphettville last start. Looks more than capable of handling this class rise and gets the weight relief against this opposition. Likely to drift back from gate 5 and will be charging home late.
